The 43rd Annual show in November 2018 was a great success!
The 43rd Annual Worcester Mineral Club show was a great success, with over 1600 attendees! We were so happy to be back at the National Guard Armory in Worcester, and reliable Chuck was there to oversee things and troubleshoot as needed. Huge thanks to you, Chuck, and to the Armory for allowing us to be back in Worcester!
On both Saturday and Sunday, our hourly door prize drawing was exciting for all. The winners could choose from items donated by our vendors. Here are some of the lucky winners with their prizes:
Grand Prize Winner from the Worcester Mineral Club’s
43rd Annual Show Announcement!
Congratulations to Paul N. of Auburn, MA for winning this beautiful amethyst in our raffle.
Door Prize Winner for 2018!
Donovan S. of Leominster, MA is the winner of the amethyst tower door prize and he was thrilled to win this gorgeous specimen!
Our 16 vendors reported good sales throughout the weekend. Holiday shopping was brisk as was spontaneous spending on some truly unusual and beautiful specimens. For those who wonder what the show is like, here are some pictures of the various booths:
This year we were very pleased to have two demonstration tables. The first, run by WMC member Grant Jones, was on silver wire wrapping. Grant brought several beautifully cut stones, and he showed how he wraps them securely and artistically with silver wire to create lovely jewelry. As he worked, he described the process, and was eager to introduce others to this craft. The second demonstration booth was run by David Ireland of the metals department at the Worcester Center for Crafts. Dave, an instructor at the center, demonstrated several lapidary skills, including how to cut stones for jewelry using a cabochon machine.
Each year our club booth offers free grab bags for children. This year, we ran out! The WMC will be sure to have plenty on hand for 2019. We were very happy to talk with interested people about our club and what it is we do. Several families and individuals joined the club on the spot.
At the end of the show on Sunday afternoon, we had two drawings for grand prizes. One was for the door prize which was on display at the ticket booth. Donovan was the lucky winner of that beautiful tower.
The raffle for the grand prize, an incredible amethyst specimen which was on display at our club booth, was won by Paul of Auburn.
Thanks to the many club members who volunteered their time to make this such a successful event, and thanks to the many people who came out to the show and brought their good humor, stories, and love for rocks and minerals. See you next year!
